Whelen Core System Expansion Modules

The Whelen Core® System Expansion Modules are designed to add additional inputs, outputs, high-current control, and Traffic Advisor™ functionality to compatible Whelen Core vehicle-control systems. Built around the current WeCanX® architecture, the modules let 785 Upfitting scale a control system around the actual equipment installed on the vehicle instead of being limited to the I/O built into the primary controller.

Expansion options range from compact 8-output modules to 24-output configurations, along with a dedicated high-current module and Traffic Advisor remote controller. Compatible platforms include CenCom Core®, Core-C®, Core-R®, Core-S®, and Core-R® DOT, making the expansion family useful across law-enforcement, fire, EMS, utility, and municipal fleet installations.

Whelen incorporates protections such as short-circuit and over-temperature safeguards, fault diagnostics, low-power operation, and cruise modes. Firmware can also be updated through the Core controller, helping keep the overall system centralized and serviceable as vehicle requirements evolve.

Core Expansion Modules also support advanced WeCanX functions such as Dynamic Variable Intensity™ (DVI™), allowing compatible warning equipment to operate as part of a coordinated vehicle-wide lighting system. This makes the modules especially valuable on complex upfits where additional lighting, auxiliary equipment, Traffic Advisor functions, or high-current accessories need to be integrated into the main Core platform.
