Whelen Howler™
The Whelen Howler™ is a low-frequency audible warning system designed to add a deeper, more penetrating layer of sound to an emergency vehicle’s existing primary siren. It is intended for high-risk environments such as intersections, congested roadways, and urban areas where conventional siren tones can be harder for drivers and pedestrians to detect.
Rather than replacing the vehicle’s main siren, the Howler works in conjunction with a 100- or 200-watt primary siren amplifier. Its low-frequency output is synchronized with the primary siren so the warning signal can be both heard and physically felt, helping improve awareness even when surrounding traffic noise is high or vehicle windows are closed.
The system supports ¼-tone, ½-tone, and composite low-frequency operation and provides eight Scan-Lock™ tone-duration settings ranging from 7.5 to 60 seconds. External cancel inputs allow the Howler to be deactivated using either 12 VDC or ground control, giving installers flexibility when integrating it with the vehicle’s control system.
The Howler is available in several configurations, including standalone speaker systems, amplifier-and-speaker packages, and a WeCanX® amplifier configuration for modern integrated vehicle builds.. Universal and vehicle-specific mounting brackets are also available for a range of public-safety platforms.
